Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the special joint meeting of Congress Tuesday afternoon was interrupted early on by a heckler, what sounded like a woman shouting from the gallery. It is unknown whether she is from any organized group, and what she shouted was not understandable over TV broadcast.
UPDATED 1:45 P.M.: Women’s activism group CODEPINK has claimed credit for the heckler.According to Haaretz, the woman is Rae Abileah, a 28-year-old Jewish activist of Israeli descent. They report she yelled, “stop Israeli war crimes.”
Earlier this week, CODEPINK protesters also picketed outside the building wherePresident Barack Obama delivered a speech about the Middle East to AIPAC.
The protester was removed, and the crowd in the chamber first booed her, then gave Netanyahu a standing ovation.
