“The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart offered advice to Texas Rep. Ron Paul Monday night, saying the potential Republican presidential candidate should “compromise his principles.”
“The Daily Show” host showed of clip of Mr. Paul, a potential presidential candidate, pushing for support of closing secret military prisons and withdrawing troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.
“What are you doing?” Mr. Stewart asked. “This is a weak Republican field. All you have to do is compromise your libertarian principles a little bit.”
The bit comes as Mr. Paul launched a $1 million “money bomb” earlier this month. Mr. Paul recently announced the formation of a presidential exploratory committee, noting that he remains undecided in regards to whether he plans to enter the 2012 Republican campaign.
That said, a recent CNN poll has Mr. Paul as the leading Republican candidate to defeat President Obama in the 2012 general election. Mr. Paul trails the president by only seven points (52 to 45 percent) in a hypothetical general election showdown.
