A teenager in China has sparked outrage after selling his kidney to buy an iPad2.
Xiao Zheng, 17, could not afford one of the new tablet-style computers that are seen as symbols of wealth in the eastern country.
But he spotted an advert offering cash to healthy people willing to have on of their kidneys removed in a grueling operation.
Zheng teenager was scolded by his mother when she discovered the operation which has prompted an outcry in China.
‘I wanted to buy an iPad2, but I didn’t have the money,’ the boy told Shenzhen TV in the southern province of Guangdong.
‘When I surfed the internet I found an advert posted online by agent saying they were able to pay RMB20,000 to buy a kidney.’
