Japan's Chernobyl, April 25 2011

Bullets from Australian physician, author, and anti-nuclear advocate Helen Caldicott at Press Conference for 'The Dangerous of Nuclear War'

- 1 million died at Chernobyl. 20,000 have developed thyroid cancer
- Japan's situation is much worse than Chernobyl; 6 nuclear reactors are at risk; 3 GE engineers resigned knowing reactors were dangerous, so Japan built them on an earthquake fault; emergency diesel generators (used to keep reactors cool) got destroyed by tsunami; the radiation coming from this is worse than thousands of atomic bombs; European food is considerably radioactive and unedible, and weather in these areas, such as rain, is at risk to absorb the radiating chemicals and spread them

"We are now in a situation where we have harnessed the energy of the sun, it is totally out of control, and there is simply nothing we can do."

The Fukushima 50, the emergency nuclear plant workers in Japan working around the clock to solve the problem, have accused the Japanese government of inconsistently handling data in relation to the radiation exposure
